Make Your Home Security Alarm Obvious

April 23rd, 2012 | Posted by ChristineM in Home Security Systems - (0 Comments)

Installing a home security alarm is a great step in protecting your home. But the problem is that when a person tries to break in and the alarm goes off, they may still have the time to get away with something valuable. Many people worry about the aesthetic of their home and therefore don’t display any sign that they have a security alarm system, but they should.

If a burglar doesn’t realize you have a home security alarm, they are going to attempt to get in. And once in, they may still go for items even if your alarm goes off. But if you  make sure to add the sign or sticker that comes with your system to the front of your home, to warn people, it will deter them from even trying in the first place, which is the best case scenario. You want to make it obvious there’s an alarm installed, from the moment someone can see the front door of your home.

So don’t worry about what it’ll do for your home’s appearance, worry about what it’ll do to keep your home protected. You’ll be much happier to know you’re safe, even if it sacrifices the look of your front door.

When you set up a home security system, it’s not just about having an alarm to let you know if someone has broken in. You need a way to communicate with someone if something should happen. An alarm set off will then alert the company you are set up with to call the police and have them come to your home, but you should also have the capability to speak to someone yourself.

The home security systems that SecurAssure offers are ones with 24/7 communication, so if anything should happen, you can speak to someone. You may be in a situation where you don’t just need the police to come, but an ambulance. Or it may be that you or someone in the family accidentally tripped the alarm and you need to let someone know that everything is OK and they don’t need to send anybody over.

Communication is key in feeling truly secure. That way you know if anything happens and you need to speak to someone, you can. There’s something reassuring in that fact, that will make both you and your family feel better. Having a way to contact the outside immediately when it’s most necessary is just as important to your security as a deadbolt and key.

Home Security Tips For Your Lock and Key

April 9th, 2012 | Posted by ChristineM in Home Security Systems - (0 Comments)

When it comes to your home security, you need to make sure to take steps to really protect yourself, your family, and your belongings. And that includes taking the time to really be secure about the biggest thing keeping someone out of your home: the lock and key for your front door.

The first step you should take when moving into a new home is to change the locks. Why? Well, not only does the realtor possibly still have a copy of the keys, but the old owner may too. And you don’t know who else may have gotten their hands on a copy. You don’t want to find that someone can just let himself into your home.

If you should ever lose your keys, you should change your locks immediately. Sure, there’s a chance that no one will pick them up or won’t know where you live. But you always risk the chance of a break in, especially if you lose them in a place where people do know where you live. Sadly, the highest percentage of burglaries are committed by people who knew the home owners.

And if the home security alarm attached to your front door often goes off on its own, make sure to get it fixed as soon as possible and let your neighbors know. Otherwise, they may ignore the alarm if they are used to it going off constantly by accident.

Only so many years ago, protecting your home was a bit trickier. You didn’t have the beauty of home security systems to make things easier.  You had to rely on the locks on your doors and windows and just be vigilant. You had to make sure you didn’t talk about the things you owned to the wrong people, or that people didn’t know when you were leaving your home to head out somewhere for an extended period of time.

Granted, you should follow all these rules now as well. But when you have home security systems installed, the technology really makes you feel so much more at ease. And ever since their use, the amount of burglaries is far less today than it was a few decades ago. The combination of security has really done a lot to benefit home owners and keep everything they own safe. And even more importantly, keep their family safe, which is more valuable than anything else.

So think about how great it is to live in the now, where you have the technological know-how to make things just a little bit more safe. What would you do without an alarm system? Probably worry far more than you do now!

While home security systems for your home are a fantastic investment, it does not mean you can be lax with other areas of your home’s security. You need to still make sure that you take care of everything else, like locking windows and doors and being vigilant with keeping curtains drawn and valuables out of sight from the outside.

Too often people feel as though once they install a burglar alarm, they can forget about everything else.  They get this false sense of perfect security and unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. While an alarm system is a huge benefit and helps to protect your things as well as your family, you can’t rely on it to be the only line of defense. It’s very possible its batteries could run out, or a smart burglar could know how to disarm it, so you need to stop them from even getting inside in the first place.

Be vigilant about teaching your kids about security as well. Make sure everyone in the home is well aware of how to take care of all access points of the house, where extra keys may be in case they, themselves, get locked out, and how to arm and disarm the alarm properly.

The Very First Home Security Alarm System

We don’t think much about it today, but everything we use had to have come from somewhere. There had to be a first of everything and many of these inventions are famous knowledge. The first light bulb, the first radio, the first computer. But what about the first home security alarm system?

The first security system was created in 1966 by a woman named  Marie Van Brittan Brown and her husband, Albert. They created this system in Jamaica, Queens in New York City. It was in response to people being worried about the rise of crime and  break ins.  It could be set up anywhere on property and  had four peep holes and a camera that could move and capture images through any of these holes.  She even had plans to create a mechanism where people could unlock their doors with a remote control.

Her invention revolutionized the market for home security.  It led to bigger, better systems that were more durable, easier to set up and more cost effective. In turn, we have the sort of home security systems available today, all because of one woman who had a great idea. So the next time you set the alarm when heading out of the house, think about Mrs. Brown!

Home security equipment is expensive, but worth it to make sure everyone and everything in your home is safe. However, the equipment can also be fragile and you have to be sure to take care of it. Electronics in general aren’t made to be exposed to certain things, but this kind of high tech system can be even a bit more fragile than your smartphone.

For outdoor security cameras, you need to be sure they are away from any moisture or water and that if it rains, they won’t be directly hit. You can be sure of this by placing them under awnings or keeping them  covered. Placing some indoor cameras that face outward is another great way to avoid storm damage.

With home security equipment like alarms, be sure to never spill liquid or let too much dirt, which can clog up the buttons or you’ll find yourself having a hard time typing in the password to arm and disarm it. You also want to make sure it’s set high enough on the wall that it won’t be reached by kids, who may accidentally break something if they aren’t careful.

Take good care of your equipment and it’ll take good care of you.

Home Security Cameras Are Easy to Play Back

When you install home security cameras into your home, the biggest issue is getting to that information right away. What if your neighbor tells you they think they saw someone suspicious around your driveway? Or it may be as simple as trying to figure out what person or maybe animal is setting off your motion sensor lights in the backyard at night.

These cameras are made with the average person in mind, so it won’t be any tricky sort of electronics that you need to read a manual the size of the Bible to understand. They are built to be easy for anybody to access so you can look at the play back of the video at the end of any day, or check it all at a later date.

Home security cameras can also be set up wherever you need, whether outside or indoors. After all, it’s good to have coverage of what goes on outside of the home to see if anyone has been attempting to get in but if someone already does, you want to be able to look at video from inside to see exactly what they took. And in the end, it’ll be helpful when looking to catch the person and prosecute.

A Home Security Alarm System Means a Mind at Ease

Have you ever had those moments at work when you can’t remember if you locked the front door of the house? It’s happened to all of us at one moment or other, and it certainly can freak a person out to be unsure of your home’s safety.  A home security alarm system can ease those worries. You’ll be sure to know every time you set it up because going through the process will really stick in your mind. You can’t forget that you had to put in the code and set the whole thing up.

You’ll also know that if you did leave the door unlocked that your alarm will still be set, so if something should happen and a person tries to just walk right in, the alarm will go off and alert the police to someone unlawfully being in your home. It’s the last thing you want to happen but at least you know you have some sort of a back up, just in case.

A home security alarm system means heading off to work with a bit more of a clear mind, so you can focus on what is in front of you and the tasks at hand rather than being preoccupied with the safety of your home.

Teaching Your Teenager About Home Security

Your kids are getting a bit older, to the point where they may be left alone in the house or even walk out and leave an empty house behind them. No longer are you guiding them by the hand to school, they are off to class themselves, and hanging out with friends on weekends. So you have to let them know how to lock up and set the home security alarm system before they leave, as well as how to take care of the house in general.

The first thing you should do is walk them through the alarm system. They need to know how to both arm and disarm the alarm so that they don’t accidentally set it off themselves. Show them more than once, then have them do it themselves a couple of times so they get the hang out it.

Make sure they know about home security in general and to make sure all windows and doors are locked when leaving or even when in the home alone.  Give them a list of emergency numbers as well in case anything should happen.  Let them know how to set up a timer on the lights if no one is going to be home for a long amount of time.

They are of the age where they can hold the responsibility of taking care of the house, so teach them!
